I'm curious how much flame other people are using when they're using their Searzall. I've been just opening the valve on my TS8000 all the way similar to how I always used to sear with the bare flame. But when I do that I get flame coming out of the Searzall while using it that kind of surrounds the end of it during use. Is this ideal or should I be toning the valve down so that it doesn't combust outside like that?
I've seen pics/vids of people using it both ways, so I was curious if anybody had info on which way is best.
Thanks!

II'm running TS8000, i start by firing it with only a quarter turn open, and then open the valve to about 1/2~2/3 open position. i think full open all the time could damage the mesh prematurely, especially when firing from cold.

Really? Could Booker or Daz comment on that? I've only used fully open TS8000 and it seems to be working fine so far.

IIRC fully open is what they recommended.

I tried playing with the valve last night while searing some steak. No matter how open I set it I was still getting the visible flame around the head of the Searzall during use. Is everybody, or at least everybody using a TS8000 experiencing this?

Yup, that's normal to me.

Yup, that's normal to me. You should run the 8000 wide open. Yes, there will be some flame. Also, even with a 4000 there will be flame when you are searing because oil will sputter, vaporize and ignite, much like putting it on a hot grill.

I just received my Searzall a few days ago and read through the directions, set it up and seasoned it accordingly. I then used it on a sous vide steak. Besides taking a long time, the whole head of the Searzal, including the guard, was glowing red by the time I was done. Has this happened to anyone else? I know it gets hot but that seems pretty extreme. From what I've read on this forum most people have the gas all the way on. I am using the small green propane canisters with a Bernzomatic ts8000. Any help or recommendations?
