What do you mean by "standard gas cylinder"? There's a discussion a bit further down about why not to use the skinnier 14-oz tanks. I find the 16.4oz tanks easy to find and cheap.

I used the tall skinny tank when I first got mine. Works fine but the short fat tank, at just $3.50, is safer and easier to handle.

I stay in the Dominican Republic and was looking for the 16.4 tank in all hardware shops, no way did not find it.

Propane is propane no matter what size container is used. The important question is what is the safest to use for your space.
The simple answer is the 16.4 oz green container, due to its wide base being unlikely to tip on its side when set down. That being said I prefer a 20lb tank with a 6' hose. It is not like I'm running all around the kitchen slinging the Searzall around. Is this an overkill well yes it is, but being winter it is not like my outside barbecue is getting any use at all. Just make sure that the torch head is turned off and have a safe place to hang for cooling off.

Be careful, though: the skinnier tank that comes with the torch is often MAPP gas, not propane, which will destroy your searzall.

Finally I found here in Italy tanks of propane! The only size available is 25 Kg so I have to use a hose. Now the question is: do I have to include a pressure regulator? At present I have only the 4000 torch and I don't know the pressure which is suggested for the Searzall. Could you help? Thank you very much.

Always use a regulator. As far as code and regulation for Italy I'm at a loss.

I finally found tanks of 100% propane gas containing 2 or 3 or 5 Kg. Also ordered the TS 8000 torch which will arrive next week from amazon.us I still have a rather silly question :-) how do I know what the perfect regulation would be? best regards, GFdS

For anyone concerned about using a standard 14.1 oz cylinder because you can't find the camping cylinder or you just want use the standard cylinder (because they are more accessible, cheaper, etc) then you can get and use one of these on it and it will probably work out just fine for you. www.amazon.com/StanSport-194-B-Stansport-Propane-Cylinder/dp/B001DC7FPM/I use my TS8000/Searzall with a 16.4oz camping cylinder on the stand/holder (without the feet extended normally) but if I would have to use a 14.1 oz standard cylinder then I would extend the feet out. Inside this base has a smaller circumference to hold the smaller cylinder. Feet in Feet out
